Our Work

Founded in 2006, the Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program focuses on cutting edge work in dispute systems design, negotiation, mediation, and facilitation.

Our clients are U.S.-based and international and include private corporations, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and community groups. Our students develop critical problem-solving skills, apply theory to practice, and deliver tailored conflict management solutions to our clients.

Our Mission

  • Train Harvard Law School students in the theory and practice of negotiation and conflict management;
  • Serve clients by building their capacity for effective conflict management and successful negotiation;
  • Serve the legal profession and the dispute resolution field by producing practice-informed scholarship, creating innovative teaching pedagogy, and inspiring and building a community of problem-solving law school graduates.

The HNMCP Dispute Systems Design Clinic strives to promote equity in all facets of our work, which involves teaching dispute resolution principles to our students, producing accessible content, working with clients from a breadth of experiences and supporting the development and growth of all in our community. We do this with the understanding that each individual is unique and that our commonalities and differences make for a more valuable learning environment. We believe in learning from a diversity of perspectives, across the dimensions of race, ethnicity, and national and regional origins; sex, gender identity, and sexuality; socioeconomic status, age, physical attributes and abilities; and religious, political, cultural, and intellectual ideologies and practices, and others. We aspire to contribute to the necessary work of dismantling oppressive systems and creating a more just and equitable world.
