Designing a Culturally Responsive Negotiation Curriculum for SEGA Girls’ Secondary School in Tanzania

In the spring semester of 2024 Arianne Evans ’24, Salome Van Bunnen ’24, and Jean Luc Nsabimana ’24 joined the Dispute Systems Design Clinic at the Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program to work together with HNMCP Director Rachel Viscomi ’07 on a project to create a culturally responsive negotiation curriculum for the SEGA Girls’ School in Tanzania.

The project included focus groups, surveys with alumni, and interviews with teachers to gain insights into the unique cultural context and challenges SEGA students encounter. The team developed a negotiation training outline focusing on assertiveness, empathy, and decision-making skills, which they piloted with Form 3 students during their visit to the school in Morogoro in May 2024.

Arianne, Salome, and Luc share their experiences and contributions to the development of this impactful program in this beautiful blog post on the SEGA website.
