On the Road

HNMCP Assistant Director and Lecturer on Law Rory Van Loo ’07 and Clinical Fellow Heather Kulp, attended the American Bar Association Section on Dispute Resolution’s 15th Annual Conference in Chicago. Heather and Rory engaged in many discussions, lectures, and panels on topics related to dispute systems design, negotiation pedagogy, and international conflict resolution. During the Court ADR Symposium, Heather also moderated a panel on how court ADR programs can partner with community organizations to expand capacity. The panel featured representatives from a community mediation center, a community college, and a law school.

In June, Heather will give a plenary and workshop at the Utah Council on Conflict Resolution annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah as well as a workshop at the Association for Conflict Resolution-Greater New York Chapter annual conference in New York City.

In March HNMCP Clinical Instructors and Lecturers on Law Chad Carr ’06 and Jeremy McClane ’02 traveled to Jerusalem to conduct a program for peacebuilding NGOs. They presented the findings from a Fall ’12 clinical project studying the prospects for cooperation among those NGOs working in Israel and Palestine. In addition they conducted a two-day workshop in Bet Jala, in the West Bank, designed to provide the NGOs with strategies to coordinate their efforts and brainstorm ways to leverage their complementary areas of expertise. Participants lauded the effort, and expressed optimism about the potential for future cooperation. The project was organized in large part thanks to the efforts of HNMCP two-time client Seeds of Peace.
