The eBay Community Court is a revolutionary project leveraging the power of the internet to resolve disputes using dynamic online juries.

This project represents an opportunity to re-skin the Community Court platform so that it can be used in a variety of contexts: microfinance disputes between lenders and loan recipients, landlord tenant issues, traffic cases, and small claims disputes. HNMCP will design an online system that would meet the needs of a local courthouse, and one that could enable such things as online jury duty, online case filing and management, and cross-jurisdiction small claims resolutions. this initiative is meant to explore the feasibility of an online solution to the problem of enabling access to justice in areas where few good options currently exist.

Our work

Step 1: Conduct interviews with court ADR program administrators and ADR practitioners.

Step 2: Streamline the prototype Community Court model using user experience research.

Step 3: Design a system for online juries, and recommend procedural protections that should be put in place to ensure the integrity of the system.

Final Product

A report outlining the findings of the research, and proposing a system and process design for the Community Court.
