The State of Mississippi ranks 50th in the U.S. in terms of health, economics, and education, and the Delta region of the state ranks below the rest of the state in all of these categories.

These problems are exacerbated by the lack of public transportation in the region. Currently there is no public transportation running between towns in the Delta region, or connecting them to cities outside the area. Nor is there any system of public transportation within the towns themselves. As a result, people without cars must pay their neighbors or other individuals in the community to drive them to work or run necessary errands.

Our work

Step 1: Learn about the transportation situation in Clarksdale and the greater Delta region..

Step 2: Interview local players in the transportation industry and other stakeholders to discover their interests and concerns.

Step 3:Map out the stakeholders’ interests and conflicts and develop a strategy to build consensus among the stakeholders.

Step 4: Organize facilitated meeting with key stakeholders to discuss interests and concerns.

Final Product

A report on the resources currently available for transportation, how these resources are being used, how they could be used more effectively, and an action plan moving forward.
