The National Forest Foundation (NFF), chartered by Congress, engages Americans in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million-acre National Forest System, and administers private gifts of funds and land for the benefit of the National Forests.
The NFF encourages and supports collaborative processes, and strives to improve relationships between communities and the Forest Service. In this role, the NFF is at the forefront of supporting collaborative efforts across the country, and it is a trusted and effective leader for improving multi-stakeholder engagement in National Forest management.
In the spring of 2016, a Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program (HNMCP) team explored and addressed critiques of forest collaboration for the NFF. The team prioritized several recommendations for the NFF, including improving stakeholder inclusion in collaborative groups. NFF has engaged HNMCP to explore approaches for effective stakeholder inclusion in forest collaborative groups focused on National Forest System lands.
